Webinar | Insatiable Hunger: The Shared Risk Factors & Substance Use Disorders
This event is co-hosted with Sanford Behavioral Health
In a "talk show'' format, Sanford's Founder Rae Green, JD, LPC, CAADC and Dr. Anna Flores will discuss the shared risk factors of eating and substance use disorders (SUD). The presentation addresses the diagnostic similarity of eating and SUDs; both are rooted in compulsive behaviors that are difficult to stop. Both have a similar relationship with the "reward center" of the brain. In addition, we will provide statistics on co-occurrence, bust myths and stigma and discuss the role of nutrition/food in long-term wellness and recovery. Also included is a conversation about diet culture, the power of social media, and values-based therapy. Finally, the presenters will discuss the importance of an interdisciplinary team, individualized treatment, and their "open door" approach.
