Webinar | Speak Up to Stigma: Conflict Resolution Skills for Self-Advocacy

Tuesday, March 5, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM

Some conversations feel impossible. Asking for disability accommodations can be hard because of self-stigma, logistical burdens, and backlash. When someone rejects you socially, it can be stigmatizing and confusing how to respond. And when we try to discuss something traumatic, it can be awkward for us and for the other person. This program teaches conflict resolution skills for talking about accommodations, rejection, and trauma. Everyone will receive free resources.

Objectives:

1) Use templates to have empowering ways to ask for reasonable accommodations that reduce stigma, logistical burdens, and backlashes
2) Practice a model of responding to people avoiding you that checks in, addresses potential stigma, honors their choice, and helps you move forward to other opportunities
3) Learn how to structure conversations about trauma so they are less overwhelming for you and the listener and so they feel safe
